Editorial Fact-Checking & Right of Reply — everything at stake when a person is implicated: request for comment and right of reply, two independent sources required, an owned and signed decision, complaints received, and the verification file as a PDF.
Newsrooms and journalists who keep a record of their fact-checks
Overview
Newsroom Source Verification — DYONYSOS
App for a local or specialist newsroom, a digital-native outlet, a news agency or a communications department that publishes, for Odoo 19 Community.
This module depends on the free module “Newsroom Source Verification Lite” (dyo_redaction_sources_lite) and installs on top of it: all articles, claims and sources already entered stay the same, and no existing table or field changes.
This module never says whether a claim is true or false. No newsroom can base its defense on a software oracle, and none would buy one. What is recorded is due diligence. Everything remains a human act — it is the journalist who assesses a source and decides to publish, never the software.
The free module already covers the claim, the qualified source and a two-rule gate: a sensitive claim cannot be published without a primary source, and a named accusation cannot be published without any source at all. This module adds what cannot be rebuilt in a spreadsheet: what happens when a person is implicated, once that minimum source is in place.
Right of reply. A record of the approach made to the person concerned — date, means, reply or lack of reply. A recorded lack of reply has the same evidentiary value as a reply obtained: “followed up on the 14th, no response by the 20th” is entered and kept.
Two independent sources. An assertion implicating a person cannot be published with fewer than two sources whose quality is not “interested party”. Someone with an interest in the claim being true cannot be what corroborates it — and that is precisely what the free module, which only requires one source, cannot tell you.
A decision owned, and signed. Publishing an allegation without having approached the person remains possible — it is a legitimate editorial choice. But it commits its author by name: without a name, the decision is refused.
Challenges after publication. Disputes, correction requests, right of reply, formal notices — linked to the article and to the specific claim, and handled by the editor-in-chief. A journalist can see them but cannot modify them.
The verification file, as a PDF. The report produced on the day the newsroom is challenged: which claim, verified by whom, against which source, on what date, requested how. Today this file exists only in scattered emails and in the memory of the journalist who covered the story.
What this module does not do. No automatic fact-checking of a claim, no querying of an external database. No artificial intelligence model is involved. No built-in web archiving — the archived URL is entered manually. No detection of AI-generated content. No CMS or publishing engine. No legal tracking of litigation — statutory deadlines, procedure — beyond recording the complaint itself.
Key points
- Publication gate — “The deputy mayor favored his cousin's company,” backed only by the denial of the person concerned, does not go out: it takes two sources, neither of them an interested party, plus proof that the deputy mayor was asked for comment — or a signed decision to publish without having done so.
- Right of reply — Outreach logged (date, channel, response or lack of one); publishing without outreach is possible but must be owned by name.
- Post-publication challenges — Dispute, correction request, right of reply, formal notice — linked to the article and to the claim concerned.
